Digital Christmas Light Switch on Event for Yeovil

Released On 27th Oct 2020

We are very pleased to announce that Yeovil will be switching on its Christmas Lights and lighting up the town centre Christmas Tree this year at the end of November and streaming the traditional switch on digitally via the Love Yeovil social media pages.

Sadly, as the traditional event for switching on the Christmas Lights and the Lantern Parade is not able to take place due to restrictions on large gatherings, the switching on of the Christmas Lights and a digital lantern parade will be streamed on Thursday 3rd December at 6pm.

Free Lantern Kits

Love Yeovil are going to be hosting a digital lantern parade and like in past years, there will be a prize for the top 3 lanterns as judged by the Mayor.

Yeovil Town Council has generously sponsored 100 free lantern kits for families to collect from The Quedam Shopping Centre on Wednesday 4th November, just before lockdown starts.

Kits will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. They will be handed out from the car park tunnel, outside the New Look store. Any family wishing to collect a free kit can do so from 10am.

Digital Lantern Parade

Love Yeovil are then asking all those who wish to take part in the digital Lantern Parade to send their pictures and/or videos of their completed lantern into Love Yeovil via Facebook or on the website, any entry needs to be sent to Love Yeovil by Monday 23rd November 4pm.

Why not film or picture your lantern as you parade it in your garden or down your street. All those who send in a picture or a video will be entered into the competition for the top 3 lanterns, winners will be announced on Thursday 3rd December and details of how to claim their prize.

For the best results please take your picture or video in landscape and with the lantern lit up in the dark.

Love Yeovil is really looking forward to seeing the pictures of the lanterns and sharing the digital parade and switch on with everyone in a safe way online.
