Ham Hill Country ‘Bark’ – Fun Dog Show
Released On 27th Jul 2022
We are delighted to announce that the ever-popular Ham Hill Country Park Fun Dog Show will be returning this year on Sunday 14th August 2022.
Now in its 7th year, the event is a celebration of dog ownership and the wonderful bond between a dog and its owner (or family!). It is set amidst the stunning backdrop of Ham Hill Country Park, popular with dog walkers from all over the local area and often much further afield.
Show organiser, Donna McNeill, says; “Everyone involved in this event simply loves dogs and over the last few years we have enjoyed seeing some absolutely gorgeous and characterful pets in the show ring. All of the team recognise dogs from our very first show that return year on year, albeit often slightly greyer in the muzzle, and we are so pleased to see them. Being able to bring so many local people together for a fun day out is a really enjoyable thing to do.”
There will be 10 fun showing classes and, back by popular demand, will be the ‘Ham Hill Challenge’ - a series of three events suited to dogs of all shapes and sizes. There will also be dog agility demonstrations and have-a-go agility. Classes are £1.50 each to enter and the Ham Hill Challenge is £1 per challenge or £2.50 for all 3. There is no registration, you just pay as you enter the ring. We can only accept payment in cash.
There is also a new online class this year to remember the lives of dear pets who are no longer with us. This special online Rainbow Bridge class costs just £1 to enter a photo of your pet (not just dogs) which is payable online. You can find out more on the Ham Hill Dog Show Facebook page.
There will also be a range of stalls to browse and, of course, some delicious refreshments!
Housekeeping – please don’t forget your poo bags and be aware that there are no bins at Ham Hill, so come prepared to take your litter home with you and recycle what you can.
Ham Hill Dog Show continues to be supported by a host of most generous organisations, businesses and individuals, including Fostering in Somerset, Pet Remedy, Kong and Burns. The organisers are also extremely grateful to South Somerset District Council for all their help and co-operation with this event.
The show will raise funds for two well-deserving local charities - The Friends of Ham Hill (a team of dedicated individuals that help maintain the beauty and heritage of Ham Hill) and Ferne Animal Sanctuary (based in Chard).
South Somerset District Council Director for Service Delivery, Kirsty Larkins, said: “Dogs are so important to family life, not only do they increase our inward feelings of happiness, well-being, and social connection, they also help us get out and about and connect to more people in real life. Ham Hill Country Park is a wonderful place to be with our dogs. Our rangers work hard to accommodate dogs and their families and make the park a welcoming place to enjoy and be close to nature, so what better place to celebrate our adorable canine friends than with our popular dog show. As the saying goes, “every dog has his day” and we hope yours has theirs. However, it’s true to say we all go home with the best in show, because each and every one of them is a champion to those who love them."
So, get set for a great day out and let your dog enjoy their moment in the limelight - you’d be barking-mad to miss it!
