New Ham Hill walking trails leaflet set to help more people explore the site

Released On 1st Jul 2018

A new walking leaflet that aims to help visitors explore more areas of Ham Hill Country Park has been produced by The Friends of Ham Hill.

The leaflet details four routes across the country park site at Ham Hill that will help visitors explore Ham Hill with confidence and ease.

The 390 acre Iron Age hillfort has so much to offer including the views at the war memorial, to the ponds in Witcombe Valley and ravens calling at Horses Wood.

The four trail leaflets come as a pack and will be available to buy from Cartgate TIC and the Rangers Centre at Ham Hill Country Park.  All profits raised will go back into the Friends of Ham Hill for future projects and events across the country park.

John Day, a Friend and Volunteer at Ham Hill Country Park said, "The Friends of Ham Hill hope that you will enjoy the walks, as we've enjoyed creating these trails. Ranging from a short circular all-ability route to a more challenging walk around the whole site there is plenty to explore and we hope that the key features information will be of interest to both regular and new visitors to the country park. These four walks are, of course, only a starting point as there are many other footpaths around the area to extend the walks further in this pleasant part of South Somerset."

Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture at South Somerset District Council added, "The Friends of Ham Hill have done a fantastic job in creating these new trail leaflets at Ham Hill Country Park.  I hope that these leaflets will enable people to explore new areas of the country park that they haven't been to before. There is so much to discover!

"The Friends are a huge support to the small ranger team that manage Ham Hill, through fundraising for projects, helping at events and carrying out wildlife surveys. I commend them for the work they carry out."

The design work of the leaflet has been generously donated by Moira Hulett of Stable Design.

The Friends of Ham Hill will be launching their new trail leaflets on Saturday 4 August by offering afree guided walkled by Friend and volunteer John Day.  No need to book, just meet John at the Rangers Centre at Ham Hill (TA14 6RW) at 10.00am.

If you would like to find out more about the Friends of Ham Hill Country Park and how you can get involved, come along to the Prince of Wales pub on Ham Hill at 7.00pm on Thursday 6 September to meet the rangers & Friends.
