Developed by the District Council’s Tourism team together with a local Somerset agency, the new site is packed with fresh content, full of wonderful things to do, places to visit, eateries to try and places to stay. There really is something for everyone here. The website will appeal to both residents and visitors as people start to explore as Covid lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Visitsouthsomerset.com showcases all that is glorious about the destination and the headline act is a new film on the home page as well as a variety of new convenient free visitor guides in direct response to queries the tourism team receive in the information centres.
These new guides, Things to Do, Accessibility and Dog friendly Days Out, pull useful information and attraction details together in one place, and can be downloaded for free onto any mobile device such as phones or tablets. Visitors to the website will also find a fantastic range of free itineraries offering suggested days out and short break ideas with fascinating insights into our attractions, history, heritage, nature, wildlife and vibrant arts and culture scene.
The District Council’s award winning countryside sites at Ham Hill, Chard and Yeovil all feature, with new films and plenty of exciting events bookable over the new pages.
The South Somerset Heritage Collection (formerly known as Community Heritage Access Centre) has also started creating digital archives and you will see some wonderful images of key items in the museum’s collection.
Exciting new content is still to come, including all the route guidance for the River Parrett Trail in the coming weeks, so keep coming back to see new ideas of things to do and places to visit.

Our great tourism team never rest from improving the experience of the attractions and their new website shows it all off at its best, with interests usefully grouped for the variety of interested readers. Tourism supervisor Bev Stapp said “Our Visitor Information Centre & Gift Shop at Cartgate Picnic Site is now open seven days a week until October; on hand to help with visitor queries to help them make the most of their time here. We can’t wait to show visitors the new website, guides and itineraries. Our OS maps are flying out the doors and we also have some new locally made produce and gifts in, perfect for treats, keepsakes and presents.”
