New visitor information panels unveiled at Yeovil Country Park Centre
A range of new information panels with details about the heritage and wildlife of Yeovil Country Park have been installed at the Country Park's Centre this week.
As part of the Heritage Lottery Funded V3 Project, panels have been installed in the Ninesprings Café, allowing visitors to find out about how Yeovil Country Park was integral to the gloving industry in the 1800's, the wealth of wildlife that calls the Country Park home and also how the Valley Gardens of Ninesprings became part of the Country Park site.
There are also activities for children: including a sensory cupboard for them to explore, a railway signal with levers and cogs to turn to match up the wildlife with the seasons.
Becky Russell, Community Ranger said, "One of the most exciting elements is the wildlife cameras which we will be installing over the next few weeks, I think it will take time to collect the footage, but it will be so exciting to see wildlife up close, on the screen in the Café. It will be like our very own Spring Watch as we'll even have our own bird box cams… fingers crossed that the birds move in!"
Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Countryside added, "It is so exciting to see Ninesprings Café being transformed into a centre of information for Yeovil Country Park. We hope that the new displays can help tell the story of Yeovil Country Park from its industrial beginnings as a railway line to the wildlife-rich country park it is today."
The refit has been made possible thanks to generous financial donations by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the V3 Project, Yeovil Town Council, Yeovil Rotary and the Friends of Yeovil Country Park.
Visit the Country Park Centre and see the new displays for yourself. The Centre, including the Ninesprings Café is open every weekday from 8:00am - 6:00pm and weekends from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Make the most of a day out and come down for the Spring Trail on Wednesday 4 April (11:00am - 2:00pm), or book a place on the Woodland Explorers session on Friday 6 April.
