PROMISEworks

Released On 26th Aug 2020

PROMISEworks wonderful volunteer mentors help the young people referred to us as they deal with struggles they should not have to face. Many will never have experienced the benefits of security and trust that come with the friendship of a reliable, supportive adult.
The charity, operational since early 2017, has grown quickly. The experienced team of five staff, recruit and train mentors.  They deal with referrals from a wide variety of agencies and manages the delicate process of matching a young person with their mentor.

PROMISEworks is always looking for new mentors. Our mentors come from all walks of life and from all parts of Somerset. They are asked to make a simple, invaluable commitment to their mentee – that they will be with them for at least two years: a stability that many will never have known in their young lives.

Thankfully,  we are moving cautiously out of lockdown and a lot of us are getting used to going about our daily lives with the addition of a face covering where necessary and a slavering of hand sanitizer at regular intervals. But how have Somerset children experienced the pandemic? We are only just starting to see some of the effects as young people are again being referred to PROMISEworks. We have children too scared to leave their homes, children who have witnessed domestic abuse within the home, young people who have been groomed on line over lockdown, young people living below the poverty line as a result of job loses within the family.

Could you spare 2-3 hours weekly or fortnightly to mentor a child or young person in the Yeovil area. You will receive thorough training before you are matched and 24/7 professional support afterwards. Have a look at our website www.promiseworks.org.uk or follow us on Facebook @PROMISEworks.
