Christmas Lantern Parade
Released On 12th Dec 2021
Love Yeovil is once again happy to be hosting the Lantern Parade this Christmas. This popular family event will be returning on 17th December at 5:30 pm and will start outside St John’s Church.
In a change to the usual event, which would normally run on the same evening as the Christmas Light Switch On, the lantern parade will be held separately, to allow more space for people to gather safely in the town centre.
Love Yeovil has been lucky enough to receive backing from The European Regional Development Fund's Welcome Back Fund (administered by HMG and South Somerset District Council). The fund aims to welcome shoppers back to the high street safely following the various lock down’s.
Love Yeovil hopes that all those who have been busy making lanterns at home, or who were lucky enough to get a place on one of the free Lantern Making Workshops or a free lantern making kit sponsored by Yeovil Town Council, will bring out their lanterns to join in the parade.
The Mayor will be joining in the parade and judging the lanterns and picking the top three lanterns winners, each of whom will receive a prize including 2 tickets to The Octagon’s Pantomime, Mother Goose and a hamper donated by Tesco Extra.
The parade will be led by Wincanton Silver Band and the magical LED Mariposa Stilt Walkers.
In light of the new restrictions announced by the Government, we are asking all those who are planning to attend wear a mask while taking part in the parade and if not double vaccinated or in possession of a Covid Pass, take a lateral flow test before attending.
We really can’t wait to welcome back this event to the town centre, so come and join us and also take advantage of some late night shopping and free parking in the Quedam Shopping Centre.
