Together Let's Brighten up Yeovil!
Released On 7th Feb 2023
Yeovil Art Space & Love Yeovil join forces bringing Yeovil Window Wanderland and the Lantern Parade together to light up the town in February.
Yeovil’s Lantern Parade returns taking place at Yeovil Country Park, starting from the Ninesprings cafe area at 5pm until 6pm on Wednesday 15 February. The evening event will be an organised trail for visitors to carry their lanterns through the park, accompanied by music from the Drum Runners. Organisers have been working with Yeovil College students who have been making some exciting larger pieces set to lead the way.
The Yeovil community is invited to design and create their own lanterns to bring along on the night. Free kits (limited numbers) and instructions are available in Yeovil Art Space, Ninesprings Cafe and Yeovil Library, and will also be shared with some local primary schools and community groups. There will be free ‘pop in’ lantern workshops, taking place in half term at Yeovil Art Space on Saturday 11th (10am - 2pm) and Monday 13th (10am - 12 noon) so you can make your lantern for the parade. As well as a ‘how to’ video on the Love Yeovil website.
If you fancy joining in the music as well the Drum Runners are inviting visitors who want to ‘bang a drum’ and help with the parade rhythm to join them at 4.30pm outside the café for a quick lesson on how to join in.
This is a welcome return of the popular family friendly event, usually held with the turning on of the Christmas lights, this time organisers Love Yeovil have partnered up with Yeovil Art Space and Yeovil Window Wanderland to spread the ‘love and light’ in February. Booking is advised for organisers to gauge the event, find out more and sign up at www.loveyeovil.com.
Yeovil Window Wanderland returns!
Following the success of previous years, Yeovil Art Space is calling on local residents, businesses and organisations, to decorate their windows, front doors and even gardens to create a town-wide trail of light and colour for two weeks in February.
The 2023 event starts Sunday 12 running across the half term until 26 February. The options are many with organisers saying ‘any theme goes as long as it is family friendly’. There are many resources available on the website yeovilartspace.uk/windowwanderland, designed to help you get inspired and put on a brilliant display for the event.
Yeovil Window Wanderland coordinator Kara Bignell-Bird comments,
“We are really looking forward to making a vibrant event and we are looking for as many schools, groups, organisations, businesses and individuals as possible to join in. Put yourself on Yeovil's map and light up the streets and town!”
With funding received from Yeovil Town Council, South Somerset District Council and generous support from the Co-op Local Community Fund, the Yeovil Light Festival promises to light up our town for all to enjoy.
