Yeovil Art Space is moving, in fact, expanding!
Released On 26th May 2023
Yeovil Art Space is moving, in fact, expanding! It’s all happening at Yeovil Art Space this coming Spring and Summer as the art charity and creative community hub will now hold two venues in the Quedam Shopping Centre. They will be closed for now while they make some exciting changes but are delighted to announce they will open to the public in their new venue from Wednesday 31 May.
Opening very close to their existing premises Yeovil Art Space aims to create a new cultural space which brings contemporary art and heritage together, supporting culture and regeneration through exhibitions, events, talks and more.
Yeovil Art Space opens its new doors on Wednesday 31 May with ‘View of Yeovil’, the gallery’s first exhibition which will showcase more than 100 photographs from the local community, professional artists, and students from Yeovil College and aims to tell the history of photography through the heritage collections in Yeovil. There will be a programme of events, talks and activities for all ages.
Located at Unit 13-15 (opposite Primark), their brand new venue will be the only art gallery in Yeovil designated for publicly-funded contemporary art and heritage projects, including exhibition space, a gallery shop for cards, prints and small handmade gifts from our member artists and more space for creative activities for all with workshops, talks and events.
View of Yeovil is the first theme of Story of Yeovil, a community art and heritage project sharing stories from the local community, for Yeovil residents and visitors from further afield. The project is funded by The National Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by a partnership of organisations. There is a programme of events, talks, educational resources, publications, displays and workshops taking place over 18 months until March 2024.
Yeovil Art Space have also announced they will be hosting the prestigious Evolver Prize exhibition in their new venue in July, a regional art event which will bring many visitors to the town and will be a destination point for the Somerset Art Weeks in September.
The current premises for Yeovil Art Space will close to the public for a while but will become a hub for the artist membership at the heart of the charity, the Yeovil Creatives including artist studios and pop up events and exhibitions. New ventures are already underway with Yeovil Creatives member artists Celia Brokenshire, Dawn Handy, Ali Mauger, Katy Armstrong, Stuart Speer and Jess Egan setting up their studios and opening the doors to the public as part of the Somerset Open Studios event (16 September – 1 October).
