TALKING THE WALK: A FESTIVAL OF IDEAS FOR GLOVERS WALK

This Autumn sees the start of conversations with Yeovil communities on developments for Glovers Walk in Yeovil town centre. The Festival of Ideas is a consultation delivered by Love Yeovil and Yeovil Art Space, commissioned by Yeovil Refresh, aiming to invite Yeovil residents and visitors to share idea about the future development of the disused shopping centre, which is due to be demolished this Autumn.

The 1.5-acre disused shopping complex in the Yeovil town centre is now set for redevelopment. It is planned to be an open green space after demolition in 2025, and will be available for temporary ‘meanwhile use’ over the next 3–5 years, providing an exciting opportunity to bring life to the area and inform the long-term development of the site. We are seeking your input on how this space can best serve Yeovil during this period, as well as what you would like to see in its future development.

HAVE YOUR SAY

The survey aims to capture the voices of Yeovil residents and visitors from all backgrounds, including those who visited regularly or rarely, in the past or in present days. Your view is essential to shape the future of this space, ensuring it meets the social, economic, cultural, and environmental needs of our community.

Alongside the survey, there will be a series of workshops to bring together your thoughts and ideas at Yeovil Art Space on Friday 8 November, Wednesday 13 November, and Saturday 30 November.
If you are interested in taking part, please indicate in the survey.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Glovers Walk will be demolished by mid 2025, it will be available for temporary ‘meanwhile use’ over the next 3–5 years, providing an exciting opportunity to bring life to the area before long-term development begins. We are seeking your input on how this space can best serve Yeovil during this period, as well as what you would like to see in its future development.

In this statement from the Somerset Council:

“Initially, we will create a new space for temporary ‘meanwhile’ use. This is to ensure that the site – once levelled – is utilised positively and effectively while we consider long term development options. The creation of green spaces featuring a range of activities would be one example of this type of ‘meanwhile’ use.”

The project team, consisting of local organisations Love Yeovil and Yeovil Art Space, will be overseen by a newly formed Yeovil Town Board made up of individual professionals bringing together leadership and skills aiming to make positive change for Yeovil. The project has also engaged consultant Dr Cara Courage who brings extensive arts and culture experience in making change, regeneration and building pride of place.
