New trail leaflets to help you explore more of Yeovil Country Park
Released On 2nd Nov 2018
The Rangers at Yeovil Country Park were joined on Wednesday 28 November to celebrate the launch of their new trail leaflets.
As part of the 'V3' Heritage Lottery Fund project at Yeovil Country Park, a range of new trail leaflets have been produced to help you get more out of your visit to Yeovil Country Park.
The Rangers have been working hard to bring together a collection of new trail leaflets. If wildlife is your main interest then the 'Wonderful Wildlife' leaflet will help you to discover more of the wildlife that can be seen in the country park throughout the year and it will take you to the best places to see them.
Did you know that the cycle path that runs from Penn Mill train station to Ninesprings Café used to be an old railway line? 'Journey through the park' will tell you all about the country park's hidden history.
Maybe you would like to discover something new in the country park? 'Art in the Park' will take you from Penn Hill to Riverside, showing you the best sculptures, mosaics and murals that the park has to offer.
For families, the newly launched 'Ranger Rik nature trail' and the '30 things to do' leaflets will inspire you to get out and about in Yeovil Country Park, whatever the weather!
Now Yeovil Country Park has extended to include new land at Riverside, the 'Explore Yeovil Country Park' leaflet will help you to discover the whole of the park. If accessibility is an issue, then the newly designed 'Easy Access Trails' leaflet will take the stress out of planning your visit.
Becky Russell, Community Ranger at Yeovil Country Park, said: "I've enjoyed developing the new '30 things to do' leaflet for the park which has been created off the back of the school and community sessions that I deliver. I wanted to share some of the activities I've led with these groups with local families for them to hopefully have as much fun completing the activities as the other groups have."
The free activity day was planned for Wednesday 28 November started with a guided walk around Ninesprings where you can discover some of the art, wildlife and heritage found in the trail leaflets. The walk started at the Ninesprings Café at 10:00am and until 11:30am. Then from 1:00pm until 4:00pm, a Christmas card making workshop took place in the Café.
The Ninesprings Café gave a 25% discount all day on all made drinks; hot drinks, schmoos and smoothies - so pop along and try one of the winter specials.
Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture at South Somerset District Council, said: "It's wonderful to see these new leaflets available for free. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the 'Journey Through Time' trail, looking at some of the amazing heritage found within Yeovil Country Park. The stories of the old cottage which was hidden within Ninesprings and the trains which used to steam along what is now the cycleway."
